Depuis Lueurs, dont le r\u00e9pertoire est sommairement une r\u00e9\u00e9criture d\u2019oeuvres fran\u00e7aises pour jazz quartet et quatuor \u00e0 cordes, l&rsquo;observation, l&rsquo;\u00e9coute,&nbsp;la recherche et l&rsquo;exploration \u00e9taient les ingr\u00e9dients requis pour voir \u00e9clore une suite symphonique.<\/p>\n<p>The Weather Cycle is not a symphony orchestra playing jazz, nor is it merely jazz laden with orchestral backing. Rather it is a series of orchestral compositions which utilize the jazz quartet as one of the orchestra\u2019s sections in order to further enhance the expressive possibilities.<\/p>\n<p>The composer has a long-standing love of jazz as well as a deep-rooted reverence for 19th century and later orchestral classical music and its composers. The writing is lyrical and principally vertical, harmonic. The harmonies emanate from the jazz vocabulary, as do the structures which are more reflective of jazz and popular music than the different forms associated with classical music. The starting point is not a motif with subsequent multiple sections of development, but more often a 32-bar melody with a standard AABA structure. The melody leads the orchestrated development which will shape the piece from the initial setup through to its conclusion.<\/p>\n<p>Son nom \u00ab Cycle M\u00e9t\u00e9o pour Jazz Quartet et Orchestre \u00bb tient lieu de fil conducteur;&nbsp;le projet est constitu\u00e9 de 5 tableaux qui illustrent autant de situations m\u00e9t\u00e9orologiques&nbsp;dans une succession routini\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p><br><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Front Chaud<\/li>\n<li>Le Catabatique <br>(Katabatic)<br><\/li>\n<li>Front Froid <br>(Cold front)<br><\/li>\n<li>Accalmie <br>(Lull)<br><\/li>\n<li>Les Aurores <br>(Dancing lights)<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">L\u2019oeuvre a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9e le 23 mars 2019 \u00e0 la&nbsp;Salle Oscar-Peterson de Montr\u00e9al,&nbsp;<span style=\"font-size: 1.125rem;\">avec&nbsp;l\u2019Orchestre symphonique de l\u2019Isle,&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1.125rem;\">sous la&nbsp;direction de Cristian Gort.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Un enregistrement avec orchestre a \u00e9t\u00e9 subventionn\u00e9 par le CALQ mais l&rsquo;\u00e9v\u00e9nement a d\u00fb \u00eatre annul\u00e9 suite \u00e0 la pand\u00e9mie. Le projet a \u00e9t\u00e9 remodel\u00e9 pour permettre un enregistrement depuis une banque d&rsquo;\u00e9chantillonnages symphoniques et ainsi le rendre accessible au public, aux diffuseurs et aux orchestres symphoniques.
